Rweco-Trust as a fighting tool for environmental conservation adopted cocoa growing as a poverty eradication program among the people of Bukonzo County and also as one way to conserve the environment. Cocoa is a now one of the major cash crops grown in Kasese.
RWECO-TRUST has always been attentive to work in such a way to have total respect of the environment, committing themselves to a constant monitoring and improvement of the environmental aspects. Concretely, RWECO-TRUST endeavors to ensure responsible use and optimized energy and, where possible, an implementation of renewable energy sources.
The quality and integrity of the products at all stages of production are also guaranteed by a sophisticated system of total traceability, according to strict protocols, that foresee very rigorous tests at every level of the production chain. The project has made sustainable production possible and has been the driving force behind development in the area, overcoming historical and environmental difficulties. Small plots of land that previously made the work strenuous and fragmented, with the significant risk of losing the harvest, is now productive. . The result of this commitment is an excellent cocoa, with an intense, yet versatile, character that guarantees a distinctive, high quality chocolate, and represents the essence of Africa. The project has boosted growth in the area and has been a driving force for the socio-economic development of the local community, providing secure income for farmers, monitored and limited work-related risks and difficulties, educational assistance, as well as health and social care programs in the villages.
