Who Are We

ABOUT US

We conserve the environmnet

Kasangwahu Protection for nature was founded in 2006 by Bakulirahi Milton as a founder. It is a community based organization located at Kabira Trading Centre in the foot hills of Mt Rwenzori in Kisinga Sub County. It was purposely found to conserve nature for future generations.

We deliver conservation financing and conservation implementationwhere it matters most” – to thousands of tree farmers/smallholders undertaking restoration of the natural environment as a business in rural communities as a quick adoption to restore wasted environment through encouraging tree growing as a business. We deploy conservation incentives in ways that enable Kasangwahu Protection for nature to consider investments that others can’t.

We deliver conservation finance through innovative community structures and solutions that attract additional capital from private sector to invest in the green opportunities represented by landscape restoration as a business. We make innovative restoration investments that promote climate resilient solutions on a commercial basis and crowd-in private sector finance by playing an intermediary role and undertaking leadership in marketing environmental services.

We works with different communities and stakeholders to conserve natural resources and biodiversity while at the same time contributing to poverty alleviation, wealth creation, inclusive growth and resilience of communities against the risks associated with climate change in Rwenzori region.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

  • Initiate and evolve procedures and safeguards for the prevention of accidents, which may cause environmental degradation and evolve remedial measures where accidents occur e.g. floods, landslides and oil spills.
  • Monitor and assess activities, including activities being carried out by relevant communities, in order to ensure that the environment is not degraded by such activities. Management objectives must be adhered to and adequate early warning on impending environmental emergencies is given.
  • Undertake, in cooperation with relevant lead agencies, programmes intended to enhance environmental education and public awareness, about the need for sound environmental management, as well as for enlisting public support and encouraging the effort made by other entities in that regard.
  • Carry out surveys, which will assist in the proper management and conservation of the environment on Mt Rwenzori and Uganda atlarge.
  • Render advice and technical support, where possible, to entities engaged in natural resources management and environmental protection, so as to enable them to carry out their responsibilities satisfactorily.
  • Identify projects and programmes for which environmental audit or environmental monitoring must be conducted.

PROGRAMME AREAS OF OPERAIONS

Kasangwaho conservation operates across western Uganda with a focus on three main landscapes: Queen Elizabeth National Park landscape, Mount Rwenzori and Albertine region in the Albertine region of South-Western Uganda, and the all in all in Rwenzori region. These are all landscapes of global biodiversity significance, but they are also hot spots for climate change induced disasters – especially floods, mud slides and changing weather patterns that result in frequent and unexpected droughts and changes in rainy seasons.
